'Mirror's Edge Catalyst' Gets New Trailer, Beta Sign-Up Open

Upcoming "free-running" game "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" earlier announced that the game will be accepting sign-ups starting February 4 for its upcoming closed beta. According to a report in GameSpot, game publisher Electronic Arts and game developer DICE said that the closed beta will be running on the following platforms: PS4, Xbox One, and on PC through Electronic Arts' online platform, Origin.

The announcement provided details as how to sign up, which can only be done through the game's website. An Electronic Arts account is the first requirement in signing up. Once a player has signed up, he or she must wait for official word if he/she is selected to be part of the closed beta. Not all who sign up will be guaranteed a spot, however, and it was not explained how selection will be done.

Together with the closed beta announcement, a new trailer for the game was also released. According to another report in GameSpot, the trailer provides a sneak peek into the back story of the game's main protagonist, Faith Connors. Connors, as in the earlier "Mirror's Edge" game, is a member of what they call "runners," who are couriers of small groups of rebels who want to overthrow the totalitarian government ruling the City of Glass.

The trailer shows Faith in her dealings with other members of the group and her encounters with the Conglomerate which is led by the game's Big Bad, Gabriel Kruger. The trailer also shows what looked like dramatic dialogue exchanges between Faith and other rebels.

More importantly, the trailer also showcased what combat and free-running moves players can do in the game. The game is described as one that makes use of parkour movements and doesn't use weapons (e.g. guns) unless absolutely necessary.

The game is going to be released on May 24 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
