'Mission Impossible 6' News: Christopher McQuarrie's Return Still Up In The Air

Fans of the long-running franchise that saw the ups and downs of award-winning actor Tom Cruise were recently thrilled with the news that Christopher McQuarrie may be heading back home.

The news, as first reported by Variety, says that Paramount and Skydance are both looking forward to another installment that will follow the same path that the fifth installment took, being a huge box office hit.

Sources reportedly said the Oscar-winning director will be back not only to slump his face on the script but also to direct the movie. While it is possible that the other directors who worked on the previous other sequels could come back for the sixth movie, McQuarrie's return is the most thrilling news from the team just yet.

The outlet admitted, though, that no official comments have been given by McQuarrie's representatives and neither Paramount, nor Skydance actually gave word about the said rumor.

Previous reports suggest that Paramount is hyped up and can't wait to work on the yet untitled movie, but it seems not much can be done as there is no official declaration yet that someone is working on the script.

On the other hand, multiple outlets who picked up on the new report state that fans shouldn't get too worried since "M:I 6" is totally happening — it's just not so organized yet. Also, it seems McQuarrie isn't so busy at the moment so nothing could possibly be stopping him from returning to the franchise that saw massive success with him as the director.

McQuarrie's decision to take out "The Syndicate" was one of the reasons why fans became more interested in his work with "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation." He told Screen Rant in August that he wanted viewers to see Solomon Lane's side, that he's "not evil for evil's sake," which, obviously, fans somehow felt at home with.

Since the rumor of McQuarrie's return is still unconfirmed, it is also unclear if the sixth movie will follow the same plotline that "MI: Rogue Nation" took.
