'Mission Impossible 6' News, Update: Christopher McQuarrie Set To Return To The Helmer's Chair
As of the latest outing of the hit action-adventure movie series "Mission Impossible," "Rogue Nation," the franchise had employed a different director for each of the titles. However, the current rumors indicate that MI 6 might break the tradition and take a new creative path.
According to the report from Variety.com, Paramount Pictures and Skydance are seriously considering having Christopher McQuarrie return for the next installment.
Citing their sources who claim to have knowledge of the situation, it appears that since the 47-year-old will be penning "Mission: Impossible 6," there's a huge possibility that he will also be sitting in the director's chair.
As of this publication, it hasn't been confirmed yet if the rumors are true or not. However, the most resonant speculations indicate that the studios and the director are already in discussion and are now moving forward on getting the deal signed. In fact, one insider went on to claim that the firms involved are planning to kick off the production "by next August."
As for its casting, Variety said that franchise star Tom Cruise, who plays Ethan Hunt, might be joined by MI 5 newcomer Rebecca Ferguson, who appears as Ilsa Faust in the said film.
Taking hints from the details given, Screen Rant wrote that having McQuarrie back as the director would be an obvious path that the film companies would traverse. This is despite the purported production issues met in making MI 5.
On top of it, "Rogue Nation" breaks out as a huge big screen success this year raking almost $700 million in box office ticket sales internationally. There's also the fact that McQuarrie has been a frequent collaborator with Cruise ("Jack Reacher," "Edge of Tomorrow," just to name a few), which would make the job an easy one to accomplish.
