'Mission: Impossible 6' Release Date, Cast News: Henry Cavill Joins Cast

Henry Cavill, known for his portrayal of Superman in the DC films "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," has joined the cast of the upcoming sixth installment in the "Mission: Impossible" movie franchise.

"Mission: Impossible 6" director Christopher McQuarrie made the announcement on his Instagram account that the Superman actor will be a part of the film sequel's star-studded cast.

"Say, @henrycavill. Had a thought. Curious if you're interested in a role in the 6th installment of Mission: Impossible. No pressure," McQuarrie wrote.

Cavill also confirmed the news by posting the same photo shared by McQuarrie but edited it to include a comedic image of the actor in the background.

"I like a good challenge. Like hanging from a moving plane...or balancing from a cliff by my fingertips...or scaling a skyscraper. I guess I'll just have to get my practice in and join the fun for the next Mission Impossible. Thanks for the invite, @ChristopherMcQuarrie," Cavill captioned the photo.

Cavill will be joining "Mission: Impossible" franchise lead actor Tom Cruise in the upcoming Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions sequel. "Mission: Impossible 6" will see the return of cast members Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Ferguson. It was also recently revealed that "The Crown" actress Vanessa Kirby will appear in the action film.

The upcoming "Mission: Impossible will be produced by McQuarrie, Cruise, Don Granger, J.J. Abrams as well as Skydance Production's David Ellison and Dana Goldberg.

Production on "Mission: Impossible 6" is scheduled to commence in Paris on April 10 with McQuarrie writing and directing the upcoming movie. The filmmaker previously helmed "Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation." His return to the franchise marks the first time a filmmaker has directed more than one "Mission: Impossible" movie.

The original "Mission: Impossible" movie was directed by Brian De Palma, followed by sequels helmed by John Woo, J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird.

"Mission: Impossible 6" is set to hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
