'Mistresses' returns for season 4, Jennifer Esposito not coming back
The scandalous soap opera "Mistresses" wrapped up its third season early in September. Followers of the show were uncertain if they would still be able to catch more of it since rumors of the show being cancelled have emerged. Fortunately, the mystery-drama series is coming back as ABC announced that it will be renewed for a fourth season.
According to Cinema Blend, "Mistresses" will return next year with all-new episodes. ABC ordered 14 episodes all in all for the upcoming season and there will be no location changes this time for the production. The move from Los Angeles to Canada after the series got renewed for season three had caused former star Alyssa Milano to depart the show because she didn't want to leave her two young children. In the upcoming season, another star will leave but for a different reason.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Jennifer Esposito will not be coming back to "Mistresses." She plays the role of fashion designer Calista Raines, who is known to be a terrible friend and "surrogate sister" to Joss (Jess Macallan). Reports say that Esposito was only contracted for one year, which means she's not supposed to be in the series for more than one season. But if she leaves, what will happen to her character?
The last season showed an imprisoned Calista after being linked to the death of her estranged husband Luca (Noam Jenkins). Before things wrapped up in the season, it left a major cliffhanger wherein Luca's real killer pointed a gun at Joss and Calista, who by the way, tried to kill herself with a smuggled rope but never happened. Now fans are speculating maybe Calista will really be killed off. If not, then maybe she will eventually get freed from prison and just part ways with Joss and end their noxious connection.
At this time, the show isn't looking for a replacement but it may change as they start writing the fourth season. No date yet when the series will return but it is speculated to come around June 2016.
