'MLB The Show 17' News: Critical Situations, Player Lock Provide Different Ways to Play Games in Franchise Mode

Critical Situations and Player Lock enable 'MLB The Show 17' players to focus on the most important moments that arise in certain games

Not every baseball fan may have the time needed to go through entire seasons in "MLB The Show 17's" Franchise Mode. And for those who don't, developers have added new ways to go through games that can still allow them to feel as though they were there to experience all 162 contests without requiring them to put in a ton of time doing so.

Revealed in a recent post on the PlayStation Blog, fans can now opt to play through baseball games using the features known as Critical Situations and Player Lock.

Beginning with Critical Situations, as its name already hints at, this additional feature will give players the opportunities to jump into the situations of the game that can be described as most meaningful.

One example developers pointed to as a critical situation that players may be asked to take part in is when the game is on the line and a star hitter is at the plate. This means that the players will now be able to determine for themselves whether tense contests end up in their favor or wind up in the loss column.

Presumably, some high leverage situations will also call on players to get important outs as pitchers as opposed to putting runs on the board as hitters.

The Critical Situations feature will also give players chances to pursue rare feats that may not necessarily be the decisive moments in games.

As for Player Lock, its name again serves as a dead giveaway, as it allows baseball fans to just focus on handling the game situations that involve one particular ballplayer.

Player Lock can be changed among different ballplayers, so there are still varied experiences to be had even when utilizing this feature inside "MLB The Show 17."

This feature should also help make it easier for players to recognize how their favorite ballplayers function inside the game and that should in turn help them perform better and post better numbers.

Baseball fans can try out the Critical Situations and Player Lock features included in "MLB The Show 17" once the game is officially released on March 28.
