MLB trade rumors: Atlanta Braves get Tyler Moore from Washington Nationals

The Atlanta Braves added Tyler Moore in a trade with the Washington Nationals right before Opening Day, while in the process sending minor leaguer Nate Freiman in exchange. Prior to the trade, the Nationals actually outrighted the 29-year old off the roster and sent him to the Triple-A Syracuse club a week earlier.

The baseball left-fielder is a versatile guy who also can play first base. Before getting sent to Atlanta, he was affiliated with the Nationals organization starting in 2012 up to this year. Overall, he played for four seasons, appearing in 277 games for the team, while hitting an average of .288.

Freiman on the other hand has been bouncing in and out of the majors, having recently played for the Athletics in 2014.

Moore's arrival in Atlanta serves as an insurance policy for the Braves, a team that's growing more and more concerned about Freddie Freeman's tendency and likelihood to get his wrist injured once again. While Moore is known for his defensive contributions, he also has decent numbers comprised of 24 homers and 91 RBIs in his career. The former 16th round draft selection by the Nationals was a star in Mississippi State University before he decided to turn pro in 2008.

There is no certainty as to the role he will be playing with the Braves, especially if Freeman eventually makes himself healthy this season. In four seasons with the Nationals, he put up likable numbers of .228/.281/.401 while producing 32 doubles. Although he was drafted in 2008, it took him four years to finally get a crack at the MLB in 2012. This time, he'll have to do better in order to at least compete for the first base. He's coming into a new environment and new team with so much uncertainty, but that's how players like him should look at a trade scenario.
