Mobile World Congress Update: LG G6 Shares Important Features of Rivals But Costs Less

After the lukewarm reception of the LG G5 last year, South Korean tech company LG launched the spec-packed LG G6 smartphone on Feb. 26 at the 2017 Mobile World Congress (MWC). The phone is expected to get LG back in the smartphone race and even make enough headway to challenge its biggest competitors in the industry, HTC and Samsung.

The new LG G6 shares many of the most important features of the Samsung Galaxy S8 but costs less. The smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch display and a 5.2-inch body. It features a slim design where 80 percent is taken up by its screen. Its body is also water-resistant, allowing it to stand a chance in a battle against the Google Pixel, OnePlus 3T and Galaxy S8.

The G6 has a streamlined aesthetic and comes in silver, black and white. Its large screen curves smoothly into the edges, allowing for comfortable swiping. The screen is also sharp and takes on an 18:9 aspect ratio, unlike other smartphones with an aspect ratio of only 16:9.

Aside from its design, its water-resistant feature also helps the LG G6 make the cut. Being LG's first dust-and-water resistant flagship, the phone is rated IP68, which means it can be dipped in up to roughly 3 feet of water for up to half an hour.

When it comes to its camera, the G6 lets users switch between the standard 13-megapixel lens and the 120-degree wide-angle lens. It also features a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter, which has a wide-angle option as well.

Like the Google Pixel phones, the G6 also features Google Assistant, which helps users take advantage of Google's search database and voice recognition. It also comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, which is relatively smaller and faster at recharging mobile batteries.

Generally, LG G6's large screen, wireless charging and increased battery capacity make it a winner.
