'Modern Family' Season 6 News: Episode 3 'The Cold' Recap, Episode 4 Plot Revealed
The third episode of "Modern Family" saw Phil desperately trying to hide the fact that he's the one to blame for spreading a cold to the whole family, while Mitch is crestfallen when Lily's playmate proves to be a genius.
On the Oct. 8 episode titled "The Cold," Phil, while editing Cam and Mitch's wedding video, finds incriminating evidence that he is the culprit behind the cold that plagued everyone in the family. He goes to great lengths to edit out the part where he sneezed into the cake. However, the video is a mess.
Currently affected by the cold is Claire, who is incredibly sick yet still determined to make it to a meeting. Not wanting to let her dad down, she goes to the meeting, but is struck by vertigo and collapses.

Meanwhile, Mitch, who is always incredibly proud of how smart Lily is, finds out that her playmate Sydney is a genius. The child is so intelligent that Mitch is bothered at how average Lily is compared to her. The playdate ends in tears when Mitch calls Sydney a know it all and accidentally gets her hair caught in his watch.
Jay, Gloria and Cam are all together to support Manny while he plays football. Cam, who is coaching the team, decides to make the difficult decision of benching Manny in favor of another student. Jay and Gloria decide to "bench" Cam at the family dinner by letting him sit all by himself at another table.
As everyone gathers round to watch the video, Phil attempts to leave but then everyone starts to complain about the way they look, so he offers to edit out the bad parts, thus postponing the viewing, to his utter relief.

"The Dunphys move into a cramped hotel room while their house is getting treated for mold, and Phil sees this as an opportunity to spend some quality time together, but Claire and the kids are less than enthused. Gloria becomes over protective when Manny starts dating an older, popular girl, and Cameron is under a lot of pressure to maintain his team's winning streak. But when he realizes Mitchell may be a jinx, emotions run high," the synopsis reads.
