'Modern Family' Season 9 Spoilers: Phil And Claire Want Their Children Back at Home

Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) are missing the presence of their children in the current season of "Modern Family."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Burrell said that the Dunphy couple will struggle with the fact that their kids will soon all live their own lives. Now that all three children have finished high school, Phil and Claire are left alone in their house.

According to the actor, the parents are going to miss their kids badly, even though in the past, they could not wait for them to move out. Last episode, Phil and Claire even went to visit Alex (Ariel Winter) in the university. It was a bittersweet experience, as they saw that she was doing well away from them.

"The kids, like a lot of people in the 18-to-25 range, they tend to hang out, they tend to not be moving out. I was guilty of that when I was that age, too. So, Phil and Claire are going through wanting to be empty nesters, wanting the kids to move out, and then when the kids are out of the house at different points, they're missing them. That's where they're at," Burrell said.

Meanwhile, the next episode titled "Catch of the Day" will see the couple arguing over something mundane. The synopsis (according to Spoilers Guide) shows Phil having a bad day after he fails to complete his daily superstition. He will try to rub off his negative vibes to Claire, but she will have none of it. She just wants to attend the concert and have a good time. Elsewhere, Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) will not agree with the renovation, while Jay (Ed O'Neill) will force Gloria (Sofia Vergara) to admit the accident.

"Modern Family" season 9 episode 3 will air on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
