'Modern Family' Star Sarah Hyland Clarifies Comment About Hayley's Sexuality
"Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland clarified the initial statement she made about her character Hayley Dunphy's sexuality. She said she has neither confirmed nor denied that Hayley is bisexual.
When a fan asked Hyland if Hayley is indeed bisexual, the 26-year-old actress sent out what many believed was confirmation. Her statement gained quite the attention online.Many applauded her tweet.
Hyland said that although she is unsure how the show's writers would respond, she is convinced that Hayley is bisexual.
To avoid confusion, the actress sent a follow up tweet clarifying that what she said was based on her personal understanding of the character she has portrayed throughout the years and may not necessarily be the truth in "Modern Family." Hyland said that she has not been told if Hayley is bisexual nor is she aware of any future references that would confirm that the character is definitely bisexual.
The "Modern Family" star's original statement was not a confirmation, but her own opinion on the matter and she admits that this storyline is one she wants to happen on the show.
The eldest Dunphy child's triumphs and conquests in terms of love have been featured throughout the nine seasons of ABC's hit mockumentary but the show has yet to see this free-spirit fall in love with a woman. Perhaps the 10th season of the Emmy-winning comedy will delve further on that topic.
Hayley's love interests in the series include Andy Bailey. The recurring character is portrayed by "Pitch Perfect" actor Adam DeVine. Her first love and high school sweetheart Dylan, played by Reid Ewing, also makes a cameo every now and then.
The ninth season of "Modern Family" premiered in September. Fans can catch brand new episodes on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
