'Mom' season 3 spoilers: Christy gets a new love interest; Ellen Burnstyn guest stars
The concluding season of knockout series "Mom" finished on a rather surprising note when young Roscoe (Blake Garrett Rosenthal) chose to live with his father instead. Meanwhile, Christy (Anna Faris) tried to move out of her mother's house only to end up back on the couch.
Creator Chuck Lorre talked about his plans for the upcoming season. "The hope for the series is the unconditional love this mother and daughter have for one another — how it allows them to stumble forward. Their lives change and grow. It's clumsy. But there's strength in numbers, in community, in family. I believe that strongly. These other women become extended family, and they hold one another up," he said. He also teased the possibility of a romantic relationship between Violet (Sadie Calvano) and her professor (David Krumholtz) next season.
The new season will see some very notable guest appearances. Award-winning actress Ellen Burstyn will play Shirley, the mother of Bonnie (Allison Janney). She will appear in the third episode of the season and she will upend the relationship of Christy and Bonnie. Actress June Squib will appear in the same episode as Dottie, Christy's ideal grandmother. Actress Emily Osment will also join the cast in a multi-episode arc.
Actor Harry Hamlin will join the cast in a recurring role. He will play Fred, a man who catches Christy's eye at a Country Club, and things become complicated because he is the father of Baxter's girlfriend.
Actress Jamie Pressly has just been promoted to series regular starting next season. She plays Jill, Christy's sober new friend. She debuted earlier this season and was a recurring character. Actress Beth Hall has also been promoted to series regular in the next season. She plays Wendy in the show.
Actress Allison Janney talked about what might happen in the upcoming season. She thinks its Christy that may fall off the wagon this time around. "We can't have a show if everything is working beautifully and smoothly I think that since Roscoe has a safe place to be, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Christy have an issue with her addiction. The writers didn't want Christy to ever put the kids in danger, but now that the kids are going to be safe — I don't know. There's plenty of opportunity for other things to go wrong," she said.
Mom will return on Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
