This marks the second delay for the "Mortal Kombat" tenth installation after an original April launched date was withdrawn and moved to the summer.

NetherRealm did not specify a reason for the delay, and speculations have circulated last minute issues have cropped up and the developers were still working on optimizing the game for the older consoles.

According to Kotaku, Warner Bros. Interactive already reached the number one spot in terms of sales last month, and may not want to risk spreading the game out too thinly, or hurting their Metacritic score with a less than perfect port.

Since its release in April 14 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, "Mortal Kombat X" has received positive reviews and set a record for being the fastest selling title in the series' history, with its Xbox One sales topping the US NPD charts in April.

Just yesterday, series creator Ed Boon released information DLC fighter Tanya will be returning to join the roster of combatants in June, together with Predator and Tremor, the latter added due to popular fan demand, both of whom are available via "Mortal Kombat X's" Kombat Pack.
