Motorola Droid Turbo 2: First Shatterproof Smartphone Released
Verizon and Motorola have unleashed what they call a "shatterproof" smartphone which is the Motorola Droid Turbo 2. The device was made available starting October 29 and according to a report in ArsTechnica, the device is only available via Verizon's monthly payment plans.
The device is part of Verizon's exclusive line of Droid phones that it continues to make with long-time partner, Motorola. It is touted as having a shatterproof display because of the "Moto ShatterShield," which basically is a plastic panel that covers the device's display, instead of the usual Gorilla Glass technology. During its unveiling, Motorola's COO showed how dropping the phone face down did not even crack the display. It is also equipped with a dual-touch layer which is useful in case the first touch layer is rendered unusable.
Under the hood, the phone houses a 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset coupled with 3 GB of RAM. Internal storage can either be 32 GB or 64 GB, which can be expanded via a microSD slot. Its display is a 5.4-inch screen with 1,440 pixel resolution. Its main rear-facing camera is a powerful 21 megapixel shooter, while its front-facing selfie camera is only 5 megapixels. The phone's battery is huge with 3,760 mAh capacity and is equipped with fast charging, and Qi and PMA wireless charging. According to a review in Tech Times, the phone's battery is supposed to last for 48 hours without charging.

Design-wise, it looks like a high-end device, with its metal frame and crisp display. Since the phone can also be customized using MotoMaker, users have so many options to choose from when jazzing up their phones. These include back leather covers which come in so many colors and textures.
The device comes pre-installed with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and according to Verizon and Motorola, they will provide an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon.
Aside from the payment plans, Verizon also has a trade-in offer wherein they will accept other phones in exchange for up to $300 and that includes even those phones with cracked screens.
