Motorola Launching Smartphone That Is 'More Innovative' And 'More Attractive' In July
Consumers in the U.S. will be seeing more from Motorola this year, according to Lenovo chief executive officer Yuanqing Yang in a report in Digital Trends. Yang was being interviewed by the Wall Street Journal about the company and emerging markets, and in the process, he made some interesting revelations about the next smartphone that Motorola will come up with this year.
Motorola, which is also owned by Lenovo, has been active in the Android market, with its Moto X, Moto G and Moto E series of phones. It is also a pioneer in phone customization, with its Moto Maker online which allows consumers to design their phones whatever way they want before they buy it.
According to Yang, the company wants to build the Motorola brand in the United States. He also announced that a new smartphone is coming to the U.S. in July and he described the phone as something "more innovative" and "more attractive."
This is actually the opposite of what was expected to happen with the Motorola brand after Lenovo bought it two years ago. That time, Lenovo was planning to build the Lenovo brand in the Android market and retiring the Moto brand in the process. With Yang's announcement, the Moto brand may continue to live on.
According to the Digital Trends report, Yang is reportedly referring to the next generation Moto X, which is the company's high-end line of smartphones. He is not likely referring to other lines such as the Moto G and the Moto E, which are classified as devices for the smaller emerging markets. His comment about "innovation" may be referring to new innovative features such as fingerprint scanners and larger and crisper displays.
He is also optimistic about the prospects of growth in the Android market in the U.S., which is due to the fact that the appeal of the iPhone is beginning to wane in the U.S. market.
