'Mr. Mercedes' Season 2 Latest News: Stephen King Adaptation Renewed for Another Season
Good news has come for the fans of Stephen King's works because the television adaptation of his 2014 novel, "Mr. Mercedes," has been renewed for a second season on AT&T's Audience Network.
Season 1 has just wrapped up this week with an episode titled "Jibber-Jibber Chicken Dinner."
It ended in the hospital, where Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway), a.k.a. Mr. Mercedes himself, was seen lying on a hospital bed seemingly in a state of coma. While a doctor informed Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) that the young man may never wake again, he knew better. The former detective whispered to Brady's ear that he will be waiting for his nemesis if this decides to come back.

With the close-up shot of Brady's face in the closing scene, it suggests that he is likely to return.
"We're thrilled that the first installment of 'Mr. Mercedes' resonated with such a wide audience," said Audience Network boss, Christopher Long, as reported by Variety. "David E. Kelley, Jack Bender, Dennis Lehane, and Sonar did a masterful job crafting a series that honored the original work by Stephen King. We're excited to have the opportunity to create a second season with this incredible team," he added.
The thriller series will return next year with a 10-episode sophomore season.
King's "Mr. Mercedes" is a part of his Bill Hodges trilogy. The upcoming season will still be based on this book, as well as the two other installments of the trilogy, "Finders Keepers" and "End of Watch."
It is unclear for now as to how two full-length novels will fit into a season with only 10 episodes. However, there are still high expectations for season 2, considering that the show's first season did very well in terms of ratings and viewership.
Scriptwriter Jack Bender told Deadline that "Mr. Mercedes" is the author's way of "writing about the monsters inside his characters rather than outside" and that they feel very fortunate to have an amazing cast to bring life to these characters.
As of now, there is no exact release date for season 2. The renewal announcement came before the season 1 finale aired.
King will also serve as an executive producer, alongside King, Kelley, Bender, and Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill Entertainment.
