'Mr. Robot' Season 4 Spoilers: Elliot and Mr. Robot Will 'Start to Integrate,' Says Creator
USA Network has already renewed "Mr. Robot" for a fourth season. And, when the show returns, fans are going to see Elliot (Rami Malek) and Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) in a different phase.
As pointed out by the show's creator, Sam Esmail, while speaking to Variety, Elliot and Mr. Robot have been in contention throughout most of the show's run. However, things are going to change come season 4.
"We've explored these different stages of Elliot and Robot and his internal struggle. Now we're getting into that stage that this season's about: disintegration," he said. "Next season, we'll then start to explore what happens when they do start to integrate."
The season 3 finale saw some surprising twists. Irving (Bobby Cannavale) killed Santiago (Omar Metwally), resulting in Dom (Grace Gummer) being reluctantly recruited as the Dark Army's new FBI connection. Angela (Portia Doubleday) also discovered that her father is actually Phillip Price (Michael Cristofer). As for Elliot and Darlene (Carly Chaikin), things initially looked bleak for them, but White Rose (BD Wong) ended up sparing their lives for the Dark Army's purposes.
Esmail spoke about the finale with Deadline, as well as the implications it has for season 4. For one thing, he previewed Dom and Darlene's relationship facing some struggles since they are no longer on the same side.
"There's a genuine relationship there: They did care for one another," he said. "It's going to be interesting though because they're on opposite sides. We're going to explore that relationship and whether they survive through that."
He also shared that the big reveal concerning Angela's parentage had been planned for a long time. Now, the father-daughter duo will be teaming up to take down White Rose. As for Irving, Esmail did not confirm whether he would return for season 4, though he did express a desire to work with Cannavale again given the chance.
"Mr. Robot" season 4 does not have a premiere date yet.
