'MythBusters' News: Closes with Final Season in 2016
Fans of the science entertainment television program "MythBusters" will have to say goodbye to the show soon as reports say that it's going to air its final season. According to a report by My News LA, the show will end with season 14 next year.
Discovery made the announcement on Wednesday confirming that "MythBusters" will close after 248 episodes, 2,950 experiments, 1,050 myths busted and 900 entertaining explosions. Looking at those numbers, no doubt that the show will leave a legacy after it is gone as it has drawn thousands of viewers to be curious and interested with science.
As to the reason why it's being cancelled, CNET noted that neither the network nor the show's hosts, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, revealed any details. But according to Entertainment Weekly, Savage and Hyneman were already aware at the beginning of the year that their science show will end soon. Because of that, they wasted no time coming up with an explosive final run for the seven-time Emmy-nominated series.
The two also sat in separates interviews with EW wherein they discussed about the final season of the show and their feelings about it. When asked about their reaction upon learning about the final season, Savage answered,"Every show has its bell curve. We're cognizant of our ratings. It's not like they were terrible but we could see them changing."
Meanwhile, Hyneman mentioned that they are executive producers of the show and said that they were actually part of the decision. "We felt like we've had really strong material for the whole run. It's been 14 years and it's just time," he said.
Fan reactions also poured out in social media citing the Twitter hashtag "#MythYouGuys." Many of them expressed gratitude for the show's fun interpretation of science while others voiced out their dismay and grief over the cancellation.
"MythBusters" will air its 14th and final season beginning Jan. 9, 2016 on Discovery. Fans can also catch the previous episodes of the show through a marathon in Science Channel which will start on Dec. 23.
