'Nancy Drew' TV Series in the Works on NBC
NBC is developing a reboot of the "Nancy Drew" series. The news surfaced a year after CBS confirmed that it would not pick up the TV series "Drew," an adaptation of the popular "Nancy Drew" book series. The reboot was written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan and was supposed to star "Chicago Fire" actress Sarah Shahi.
According to reports, the new NBC series will be rather different from the original project that failed to make it to CBS, as it will feature a new concept. Rater and Phelan will collaborate yet again in writing the show, with Dan Jinks as executive producer.
As for the cast, Shahi will no longer be involved. While the original CBS series was supposed to follow an older and wiser version of the titular teen detective trying to solve mysteries in the fictional town of River Heights, as well as in other countries like France and Japan, the upcoming NBC series will feature Nancy in her 40's or 50's. In the new upcoming version, Nancy will not be a detective. Instead, she will be the author behind a popular female detective book series which she wrote back when she was a teenager.

The upcoming NBC series will overhaul the original CBS story, where Nancy was supposed to be a woman in her 30's, working as an NYPD detective who investigates crimes in the modern world.
Although the CBS network did not pick up the original version of the series last year, new reports reveal that the CBS Television Studios will be producing the upcoming reboot. In a recent statement, Rater said, "We did a pilot and we tried to forget about it but we couldn't; we loved the characters so much. But we knew that we had to come up with a different way to go about it."
The "Nancy Drew" TV series has yet to have a premiere date on NBC.
