'Narcos' Season 4 Canceled? Pedro Pascal Says Show Can't Continue If It's Not Safe

Pedro Pascal spoke up about the recent real-life tragedy on "Narcos," following the murder of the show's location scout in Mexico. The incident raised doubts on the fate of the hit series on Netflix.

Pascal, who plays DEA Agent Javier Peña on "Narcos," told TMZ that working on a show about drug cartels might no longer be safe. If this is the case, then the show cannot continue with season 4.

"We're talking about lives," Pascal said. "If they want to do it, then they'll figure it out in a safe way."

Carlos Muñoz Portal, 37, was looking at potential locations in a remote Mexico town as the show plans to explore the beginnings of the Juarez cartel in the country in season 4. Reports stated that there weren't any witnesses who could piece what really happened to Muñoz but the location scout's body was found in one of the places with the highest murder rates.

Netflix acknowledged the incident but did not provide more details pending investigations. The streaming platform also has not announced changes in its plans for "Narcos" season 4, which received a green light for production in mid-2016.

Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, the brother of Pablo Escobar, suggested that Netflix should hire hit men as bodyguards if the production wants to proceed with filming. Moving production back to Colombia might also be possible, but that would mean the loss of jobs for hundreds of workers and crew in Mexico.

"Narcos" is apparently closing on the operations of an active drug cartel, hence the mounting risks. Its previous seasons dealt with drug kingpins who either died or landed in prison and disbanded their trades.

Netflix first launched "Narcos" on its platform in August 2015 and season 1 and 2 focused on the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar. Season 3, which started streaming last Sept. 1, focused on the billion-dollar operation of the Cali cartel.
