'Narcos' Season 4 News: Show's Location Scout Found Dead in Mexico; Will Series Return to Cali?

Location scout Carlos Muñoz Portal was fatally shot in a violent region in Mexico while scouting for the fourth season of "Narcos."

Portal headed to central Mexico last week to find new locations for "Narcos." However, his trip turned out to be his last after he was discovered slumped over in the driver's seat of his car. Local police confirmed he had been shot multiple times.

Authorities are having difficulties finding the suspect since Portal's body was found in a rural and remote place. No witnesses had reached out to the cops as well.

"We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family," Netflix said in a statement. "The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate."

Further details about Portal's death have yet to be revealed. It's worth noting that the vehicle was found on a dirt road in San Bartolo Actopan, which is a part of the municipality of Temascalapa. The site is very near to the border with Hidalgo, a place known for its drug-related homicides.

Almost a week after Portal's death as reported, Pablo Escobar's brother, Roberto De Jesus Escobar Gaviria, urged Netflix to improve the security protocol for its production. "People are dying," said CEO of Escobar Inc. Olof K. Gustafsson. "It's clearly not safe to film shows about drug lords."

Season 3 of the Netflix drama explored the rise and fall of the Cali cartel. At the end of the installment, it was hinted that the show's focus will shift to the origins of Mexico's notorious Juarez cartel. Portal's death has since raised doubts on whether production will continue in Mexico or return to Cali where season 3 left off.

The fourth season of "Narcos" is expected to premiere September 2018 on Netflix.
