'Naruto Shippuden' Ends; 'Boruto' Spinoff to Begin in April

The long-running anime series "Naruto Shippuden" is set to finally run its term, with its final episode featuring Naruto and Hinata's wedding airing this week.

As fans continue to hold out hope that the anime will live to see another season, its timeslot on TV Tokyo will be taken over by a new series called "The Snack World" starting April 13. The information comes from the Japan-based game developer, Level 5.

TV Tokyo has not made an official statement about the fate of "Naruto Shippuden" after episode 500 airs this Thursday. It is speculated that it is just being moved to a new timeslot.

However, there is a bigger reason to believe that the series already hit the finish line especially since the final story arc featuring Naruto and Hinata's union looks and feels like the end.

"Naruto Shippuden" has covered all chapters of the manga as well as each of the epilog books, which is why many figured it was the end of the road for the anime.

Although "Naruto Shippuden" is bidding adieu, the franchise is not going away from the small screen. The spinoff, "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations," is just about to begin.

Based on the manga of the same name, the new anime will follow the adventures of Naruto's iron-willed son Boruto, who was already seen in action in the big screen in "Boruto: Naruto the Movie."

TV Tokyo has been promoting "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" with commercials featuring the characters fans can expect to see in the new series.

Joining Boruto in the anime is of course his family — his father Naruto, his mother Hinata and his sister Himawari. Shikamaru is also part of the action and so is his son, Shikdai.

The young Uzumaki's friends, Sarada and Chocho will also be in the "Naruto Shippuden" spinoff with a mysterious new character who dons a blue shirt and glasses joining the fun.

"Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" will premiere on April 5.
