NASCAR News 2015: Kyle Busch Will Have Off-Season Surgery Next Month

Kyle Busch is the new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champ, which means a lot of celebrations and gatherings are expected to follow in the off-season. Unfortunately, that's not the case for the 30-year-old stock car professional driver, who is actually going to have a follow-up surgery on a couple of injuries he suffered in the season, particularly the left foot and right leg.

Busch missed several races of the season, 11 to be exact, right after he broke his left foot and right leg in an accident during the Xfinity Series race in Daytona. The wreck forced him to be out for a while, requiring him to undergo corrective surgery, which included placing screws and rods to his feet. The purpose of another surgery in the off-season is to remove those rods and screws from the left foot and right leg.

He later revealed that doctors told him the recovery period will be at least four weeks. "Just having to re-go through the knee and to cut the knee open again in order to pull the rod out, that's going to be the most traumatic part and just having that have to heal and go back together and let the muscle get back together, and of course the tendon, as well to," the champion driver added.

He wants to have both procedures on his injuries to be performed at the same time so that recovery time won't be that long.

Driving the No. 18 Toyota Camry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Busch wrapped up this season with five wins, as well as 12 top 5 finishes and 16 top 10 finishes. He then won his very first series championship last Sunday by grabbing the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Aside from him, another driver, Denny Hamlin, will also need offseason surgery to repair a torn ACL he suffered several days before the start of the Chase.
