'Nashville' Season 4 Spoilers, Plot News: Showrunner Hints At Spring Wedding
Fans of ABC's hit television drama series "Nashville" got the romantic proposal they were waiting for in the show's winter finale, which aired on Dec. 9.
The episode, titled "We've Got Nothing But Love to Prove," saw guitarist Deacon (Charles Esten) getting down on one knee and proposing to country music superstar Rayna (Connie Britton) in its final moments. The proposal came after Deacon went through a severe bout of jealousy over Rayna's relationship with Markus (Riley Smith). But after Markus left to reunite with his band in Los Angeles, Deacon opened up about his feelings and proposed. Rayna said "Yes!" and, according to "Nashville" showrunner Dee Johnson, it won't be long before fans get to watch the couple's big day.
"We can expect wedding bells in our return in March," Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. "We're going to jump time a little bit." When it returns in March 2016, the show will jump a month into the future.
The "Nashville" boss also revealed what was behind Rayna and Deacon's decision to get married, saying that it was something that the two had been moving towards for a long time. But though the couple were already living in the same house, outside forces seemed to be pulling them in opposite directions.
Johnson said, "Markus was a little bit of a catalyst too to their concerns, so they said, 'We need to make this a done deal and everybody needs to know and let's finally do what we've been talking about doing.'"
As for what's in store for the couple after they tie the knot, the "Nashville" show runner explained that because Rayna and Deacon were already living together, some parts of their relationship won't change much. However, taking the leap towards marriage is a significant move. She said: "Now they're really working on being a formally drawn family and that is isn't as easy as it seems. Happily ever after usually don't come right away."
"Nashville" will return to continue its Season 4 on March 16, 2016.
