'Nashville' Star Makes a Statement with Her New Haircut
One of the "Nashville" stars has decided to make a powerful statement by cutting off her long blonde hair.
According to CNN, Clare Bowen, who takes on the role of Scarlett O'Connor in the hit series "Nashville, recently made a drastic change. It was revealed that she decided to cut off her long blonde hair in exchange for a short pixie cut.
However, the haircut was not in vain. The actress had released an explanation revealing the reason for her new cut. She posted a photo on Facebook, which was paired with a post saying, "I was really inspired when I heard a story about a little girl who said she couldn't be a princess because she didn't have long hair, and I wanted her, and others like her to know that's not what makes a princess, or a warrior, or a superhero."
Bowen explained that when she was just four years old, she was diagnosed with end-stage nephroblastoma. Because of that, she befriended many other sick children who described as "mostly bald, all tubed, taped, bandaged up and stitched back together."
She said that despite their appearance, the group of children were able to see past it all. She explained that the children did not laugh and tease each other because they just accepted one another. When she recovered from the sickness, she was able to grow back her hair.
However, she explained that it was still not the same. She said, "I look relatively normal on the outside, but on the inside, I am still the same stitched back together little creature, in a world where people are judged so harshly for the way they look. Every scar tells a story, every bald head, every dark circle, every prosthetic limb, and every reflection in a mirror that you might not recognize anymore."
With that, she encouraged her fans, as well as viewers of the series, to see beyond apperances because it is the inside that matters.
Fans can see Bowen in the hit series "Nashville" that airs every Wednesday on ABC.
