Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor Rematch: 'The Notorious' begins War of Words ahead of possible Rematch at UFC 200
Following Nate Diaz's monumental victory against featherweight world champion Conor McGregor at UFC 196, the UFC has already been reportedly eyeing a rematch between both men at UFC 200.
The said event, which is expected to be the company's biggest card of the year, is slated to take place at the newly constructed T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada on July 9th.
The non-title welterweight bout between McGregor and Diaz last March 5th was a last-minute arrangement after lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos pulled out 10 days before the fight due to a broken foot. With no training camp and coming off a vacation in Cabo, Mexico, Diaz opted to take the fight on short notice, at 170 pounds, making his win more noteworthy.
"The Notorious" did experience his first UFC loss in the hands of Diaz via a second round rear naked choke. Many people believe that it was the Stockton, California native's size advantage and grappling prowess that gave McGregor a difficult time, which eventually led to his defeat. During post-fight interviews, McGregor described his loss to Diaz as a "bitter pill to swallow".
He also declared his intent to drop back down to featherweight and defend his title, where the likes of former long-time 145-pound champion José Aldo and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar have been waiting for him.
But now that the rumors of a rematch have been at its loudest, McGregor seemed to have shifted his attention back to Diaz, whom he will potentially be facing in another non-title welterweight contest.
In a recent Instagram post, the brash Irishman has begun the gamesmanship.
"It was a good knock. Enjoy it. We'll see next time," McGregor's post reads, along with an image of him landing a flush overhand left on Diaz's right jaw.
In another report by Bloody Elbow, McGregor has already opened up as a slight -170 favorite for the possible UFC 200 fight, against Diaz who opened up as a +140 underdog.
