'NBA 2K18' Nintendo Switch News: Game Larger Than Expected; MicroSD Card an Absolute Requirement

In order to play the newly released "NBA 2K18" on the Nintendo Switch, players will need a microSD card.

This is because, according to the folks from NeoGAF who already got their hands on the game, the latest installment of the hit basketball simulation game will need 22.9 GB of space.

The save files alone will drain the Nintendo Switch memory since "NBA 2K18" will take up 5 GB more just for every save file, making each one of them larger in size compared with full-on titles available on the console.

Although the Nintendo Switch comes with 32 GB of space, only 25 GB of it is usable when the software shipped with the console is taken into consideration. So even though players clear out everything, one save file still would not fit.

Unfortunately, buying the physical version of "NBA 2K18, " which will be available on Oct. 17, will not solve the issue either. On its support page, Nintendo detailed that apart from the 5 GB save files, the initial software download will amount to 6.8 GB with the additional software update as big as 16.1 GB.

That being said, it looks like gamers will have no choice but to purchase a microSD card for the Nintendo Switch to be able to enjoy "NBA 2K18" to the fullest.

Prior to the release of the basketball game, Nintendo has teamed up with SanDisk to address the problem that the large file size of "NBA 2K18" brings about.

As a representative told Forbes regarding the storage issue on the Nintendo Switch:

A microSD card will be needed for certain Nintendo Switch games that contain an especially large amount of content and require additional storage for players to enjoy the full experience.

It is being said that without a microSD card, some components of "NBA 2K18" will be missing although the company has not outlined which these will be.

Either way, it seems that a microSD card is a requirement rather than a perk. Whether or not this hurts the sales of "NBA 2K18" in the game remains to be seen.
