NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony will be producing a documentary about fellow basketball player Lloyd Daniels.

In a report by the Washington Post, "The Legend of 'Swee' Pea" revolves around the story of Daniels, whose rise to stardom and success was cut short due to drug addiction and violence.

Daniels played for the San Antonio Spurs in the National Basketball Association in 1992 at age 25, and went on to for seven more years for six different teams.

In another report by the New York Post, Anthony is believed to be the main source of funds for the film, and shared some inputs based on his own experience as a professional basketball player.

"I did some creative stuff on it,'' Anthony said. "When I saw the rough footage I had, I saw which direction to go with that. That story is a powerful story, especially for athletes now who are on the fence. It's a bigger message to that story.''

The film made its world premiere on Tuesday at DOC NYC at the IFC Film Center.
