NBA Trade News: Will The Cavs Trade Iman Shumpert?

Two teams are reportedly interested to get Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert.

An article from ESPN revealed that the Cavs must unload a player or cut one of them from the team's roster since they currently have 16 guaranteed contracts at the moment. One of the names that are reportedly being considered for unloading is Shumpert.

According to the article, the Cavs could benefit from letting go of Shumpert's $10.3 million paycheck so they can deal with their luxury tax problems.

The report also claimed that Houston Rockets had been eyeing Shumpert's defensive skills for a quite a while. This could be the team's strategy if they want to stand a chance with the powerhouse line-ups of Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Division.

However, the Rockets reportedly has to let go of some people from their roster in order to enter a trade that involves Shumpert.

Meanwhile, Shumpert revealed in the same report early this month that he and Cavs coach Tyronn Lue managed to clear the air between them prior to the beginning of the team's training camp last month. This is reportedly necessary since there was no chance for them to have a talk after the team's 4-1 loss to the Warriors during the 2016-2017 NBA Finals series.

"It was just that time for me to have a, just a grown-up conversation with him and just let him know, 'Can we just sort of knock down the coach-player thing right now and can I just sort of talk to you personally about how I feel about how everything finished up last year?'" the 27-year-old shooting guard stated.

Another report mentioned that Shumpert is also being considered by the Minnesota Timberwolves since last year. According to a previous report, the Timberwolves had been asking for his availability in the previous season, and his name was also mentioned in the rumors about a possible Minnesota transfer before the trade deadline back in February.

Shumpert's possible trade to another team could be announced anytime soon.
