NBA Trade Rumors: Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks May End Up Stuck With One Another
Knicks trading Anthony looking less likely with start of the season less than a month away
It seemed so certain back when the offseason began that the New York Knicks would be trading Carmelo Anthony. And yet, the start of the 2017-18 NBA regular season is now less than a month away, and no deal has been struck.
It is not for a lack of effort apparently.
Earlier in the offseason, a source with knowledge of the trade talks between the Knicks and the Houston Rockets told The New York Daily News that a deal involving Anthony was apparently very close to being completed.

Several things got in the way, however, and months later, no deal has still materialized.
It is possible that the Knicks have something lined up that they have managed to keep under wraps and Anthony will be dealt before the regular season opens on Oct. 17, but that seems unlikely.
The reality is that age and a diminishing skillset have taken their toll on Anthony's star power. He is still more than capable of being an effective player for sure, but no longer one that every team in the NBA is lining up to acquire.
Anthony's contract further complicates the proceedings. The scoring forward is owed over $26 million in salary for the upcoming season, and on top of that, he also has a player option that can pay him nearly $28 million in salary for the 2018-19 season should he decide to invoke it, as shown in Hoops Hype.
To put it simply, Anthony is not the easiest player to move, especially since the Knicks do not want to just give him away.
There is a good chance that come opening night, Anthony will still be putting on the uniform of the New York Knicks, and he may even be doing the same thing once the 2018-19 season rolls around.
