NBA Trade Rumors for 2016-17 NBA Season: Aldridge to Leave Spurs, Faried to Warriors, Thompson to Spurs
Despite the 2016-17 NBA Regular Season being only a few days away, trade rumors continue to appear in the news. Some of these trade rumors are so unexpected and surprising, while some actually make sense and are likely to occur within or after the regular season. Here are the latest trade rumors.
1. LaMarcus Aldridge to Leave the San Antonio Spurs
According to iTech Post, there are rumors that LaMarcus Aldridge of the San Antonio Spurs may be traded. The rumor adds that the Spurs are open to the possibility of trading Aldridge, who has played only one season for the team so far.
Jackie MacMullan of ESPN said that while Aldridge put up significant numbers in his first season with the Spurs, "the experiment with [him] has not worked out like the Spurs." In particular, the team was hoping to make Aldridge its primary offensive weapon, but it hasn't turned out that way, especially with the steady and solid performance of Kawhi Leonard.
The Spurs may also consider trading Aldridge for younger talents and do so before he opts out of the player option two seasons from now.
Aldridge averaged 18.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 blocks per game last season, his first season with the Spurs.
2. Kenneth Faried to Warriors
According to Chatt Sports Net Kenneth Faried may join the Golden State Warriors in a trade. For this trade to be realized, the Warriors may have to give up one of their most important players in Draymond Green.
One possible reason why the Warriors might trade Green is because he won't get the ball as much anymore with the arrival of Kevin Durant. Green has also been accused of having a volatile attitude; he has been involving in feuds outside the basketball court and starting arguments during practice.
Green averaged 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks per game last season. Also, he shot 38.8% from beyond the three point line.
3. Klay Thompson to the San Antonio Spurs
According to Parent Herald the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs, two of the best teams in the Western Conference, might exchange superstars in a blockbuster trade rumor.
In particular, the Warriors might trade Klay Thompson to the Spurs. In exchange, they will get Kawhi Leonard; one of the best all-around players in the league today.
Kevin Durant's addition to the Warriors team might be the primary cause for this rumor. Thompson will probably score fewer points this season since Durant will likely play a bigger role on offense. Durant is just as good, if not better, than Thompson at shooting, and has a better all-around game.
Thompson averaged 22.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last season, while Durant averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists last season.
