NBA Trade Rumors for 2016-17 NBA Season: Carter-Williams to Bulls, Rubio to Sixers, Okafor to Timberwolves
In a couple of days, the 2016-17 NBA regular season will begin. NBA trade rumors continue to appear in sports news as fans and analysts speculate last minute roster change-ups before opening day. Here are the latest trade rumors.
1. Michael Carter-Williams to Chicago Bulls
According to Fansided, Michael Carter-Williams might be traded to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Tony Snell, a shooting guard who averaged 5.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game last season.
Marc Stein of ESPN even tweeted about this trade rumor, saying "BREAKING: League sources tell @ZachLowe_NBA and me that Bucks and Bulls are in deep talks on a Michael Carter-Williams-for-Tony-Snell trade."
If this trade is pushed through, then it implies that head coach Jason Kidd has decided Carter-Williams can't be a good fit as a point guard for the Bucks. In fact, Kidd plans to start Giannis Antetokounmpo as the team's PG this coming regular season. At 6'11", that makes Antetokounmpo the tallest point guard in the league right now.
The trade also makes sense for the Bucks since Khris Middleton, their top perimeter shooter, can't play for 6 months due to a hamstring injury. Tony Snell would provide that perimeter threat to space the floor.
Michael Carter-Williams, on the other hand, would help improve the Bulls' perimeter defense. Together with Jimmy Butler, the two back court players would wreak havoc on the defensive end.
2. Ricky Rubio to Philadelphia 76ers
According to Ecumenical News Ricky Rubio is involved in a trade rumor with the Philadelphia 76ers. Specifically, Rubio will be traded to the Sixers, and in exchange, the Timberwolves will obtain Nik Stauskas and Jahlil Okafor.
It is well known that the Sixers has too many talented front court players, especially now that Joel Embiid seems healthy and ready to play in this regular season. Throughout the offseason, Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor have been involved in numerous trade rumors. The Sixers would preferably love to trade one of their bigs for a guard.
With Ricky Rubio, the Sixers will get one of the most talented and creative point guards in the league today. Rubio averaged 10.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Alongside another veteran guard in Jerryd Bayless, the Sixers would have two great playmakers who could make for a more organized offensive system.
In this trade scenario, Shabazz Muhammad will go with Rubio to the Sixers. Muhammad could provide double digit scoring and can even play as a power forward in small ball situations.
