NBA Trade Rumors for 2016-17 NBA Season: Gay to Heat, Shumpert to Timberwolves, Williams to Be Traded
A couple of days from now the regular season will start. Many are expecting high performances from teams that obtained key players through trade or free agency signing. Here are the latest NBA trade rumors.
1. Rudy Gay to Miami Heat
According to HNGB, the Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat are engaged in trade talks sending Darren Collison and Rudy Gay to the Heat. In exchange, the Kings will get point guard Goran Dragic.
Rajon Rondo has left the Kings to play for the Chicago Bulls. With his departure, the Kings need a new point guard. Goran Dragic can replace that void if this trade pushes through. Dragic averaged 14.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game last season.
Rudy Gay can help fill up the numbers that Chris Bosh typically puts up per game. Bosh is likely going to miss the season again due to the same health problems he encountered last year. Although Bosh said he is ready, medical doctors didn't give him the clearance to play. Gay averaged 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game last season.
2. Iman Shumpert to Minnesota Timberwolves
Inquisitr reports a three team deal that involves Iman Shumpert heading to Minnesota, Ben McLemore and Darren Collison to the Cavaliers, and Ricky Rubio to Sacramento.
According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, "The Cavaliers are pursuing a trade to acquire a backup point guard and are hoping to make a deal before the season starts Tuesday."
Having a veteran point guard is crucial for the Cavaliers to give Kyrie Irving fewer minutes to rest him up for the big games in the playoffs. The Cavs already have a backup point guard in Kay Felder, but as a 5'9" rookie, he probably needs more time to adjust to how the game is played in the NBA.
The three-team trade between the Kings, Cavaliers and Timberwolves is legitimate under salary cap and trade restrictions. Darren Collison would be a great backup point guard, and McLemore will provide additional firepower from the shooting guard position.
Iman Shumpert will help the Timberwolves on the defensive end of the floor. While Ricky Rubio may be more valuable than Shumpert in many respects, the Wolves have reportedly been keen on shopping Rubio since they believe Kris Dunn is the future starting point guard of Minnesota.
3. Mo Williams to be Traded
With the Cavaliers rumored to trade for a veteran point guard, rumors point to Mo Williams as one of the players the team is most likely to trade for.
Last season, Mo Williams only played half of the regular season games. He averaged 8.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.4 assist per game last season.
Adding Jordan McRae into the mix, a young, emerging talent who has a lot of potential could convince other teams to trade for Williams. Some veteran point guards that the Cavaliers are reportedly interested in are Mario Chalmers, Norris Cole, and Ricky Rubio.
