NBA Trade Rumors for 2016-17 Season: J.R. Smith Out of Cavs, DeMarcus Cousins to Wizards, Draymond Green to Heat
Off-season rumors continue to pour in. Some involve players that haven't signed with any team, teams exchanging stars, and so much more. The following trade rumors are the latest in the NBA.
1. J.R. Smith Out of Cavaliers
Surprisingly, the Cleveland Cavaliers hasn't completed their roster yet for the 2016-17 NBA Season. The team lost Matthew Dellavedova and Timofey Mozgov during the off-season, and J.R. Smith has yet to agree with the offer the Cavaliers gave him.
According to Steve Kyler, Cleveland proposed a $10 million contract to J.R. Smith but he is still waiting out to see if the franchise will give him a slightly better deal.
However, there are several indications that the Cavaliers aren't interested in increasing their offer. For one, the franchise has already achieved their goal of getting a championship, and Dan Gilbert, owner, may feel that the odds of winning once again is slim especially in this regular season. That's because the Golden State Warriors have become a super team with Durant.
Given those odds, the Cavaliers may find it's not worth spending luxury tax fortune getting J.R. Smith. Moreover, Cleveland may have found players that are cheaper than Smith but can produce just as well. Jordan McRae, who showed his capabilities during the Summer League, may be that cheap alternative.
2. DeMarcus Cousins to Washington Wizards
DeMarcus Cousins has been the subject of trade rumors for weeks now, and one of the latest rumors report that he will be traded to the Washington Wizards, with the Sacramento Kings getting Bradley Beal.
According to Inquistr, the dislike between John Wall and Bradley Beal may be the reason why the Wizards are willing to trade away Beal for another super star.
However, DeMarcus Cousins doesn't seem to be a good fit to the Wizards. The team already has Marcin Gortat and Ian Mahinmi. Another center will cause a log jam in the Washington front court. Plus, they will lose a star shooting guard, downgrading the spot with Marcus Thornton and Jarell Eddie.
3. Draymond Green to Miami Heat
Rumors report that the Golden State Warriors will trade Draymond Green to the Miami Heat for Chris Bosh.
Bosh had to miss last season's playoffs for health reasons. But it seems that he is ready to play in the upcoming regular season, after he was recently found training with his teammates. Yahoo! Sports also confirmed that he will return to the NBA.
The question, though, is whether Chris Bosh will go back to the Miami Heat, or play for another team. If he decides to leave, then surely a lot of teams will be interested in acquiring him. The Golden State Warriors might trade Green, whose controversies over the past few weeks might be too distracting, in exchange for Chris Bosh, who can develop a good team chemistry with Durant and Curry.
