NBA Trade Rumors: New Orleans Pelicans Reportedly Continuing Their Search for Frontcourt Help, May Be Eyeing Brook Lopez
New Orleans Pelicans previously rumored to have interest in Philadelphia 76ers big man Jahlil Okafor
Even though they look like longshots to make the playoffs at this point in the season, that has apparently not kept the New Orleans Pelicans from looking into trades that could help them this year and in the years ahead, with the latest NBA trade rumors indicating that they are still trying to find a new frontcourt partner for Anthony Davis.
Davis being such a versatile player provides the Pelicans with a bit of leeway in terms of how they can try to improve the team, and that could explain why the rumors concerning them have linked them to talented yet flawed big men.
For instance, it wasn't that long ago when a report from Sam Amick of USA Today Sports noted that the Pelicans and Philadelphia 76ers have had discussions concerning a deal that would send young big man Jahlil Okafor to New Orleans.
Now, a new report from Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders mentioned that the Pelicans have apparently talked about a different trade, and this one could lead to Brook Lopez of the Brooklyn Nets becoming one of the frontcourt players starting alongside Davis.
Okafor and Lopez are both known for being good interior scorers so they could draw some attention away from Davis and the other Pelicans were the team to acquire either of them. The two rumored trade targets aren't known for their defensive chops, however, so Davis may end up needing to cover for them a lot on that end of the floor.
Neither player may be able to make enough of a difference at this point to propel the Pelicans to the playoffs were they to be dealt for, but trading for them now could still be a good move for the team as they attempt to build some semblance of a solid foundation for the seasons ahead.
At the very least, dealing for either Okafor or Lopez could make things a bit easier for Davis, and keeping the franchise player happy is always a good move.
More news about the latest NBA trade rumors should be made available soon.
