'Celebrity Apprentice' renewed or canceled? NBC puts show on hiatus to replace Donald Trump
It was confirmed that the NBC series "Celebrity Apprentice" will not be seeing the return of Donald Trump as a host.
NBC announced that it plans to extend the hiatus of the upcoming season. The time will be used to look for a new host to replace Trump.
Meanwhile, there have been rumors of who will take on the role. Reports by Sunday Express stated that Amal Clooney was short-listed to host the show. It was rumored that the network is in search for a female host as the list also included Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg and actress Jessica Alba. There were also speculations that comedian George Lopez is in line for the role, as well as former NBA star Magic Johnson.
According to Entertainment Weekly, entertainment chairman of NBC Robert Greenblatt addressed the rumors by saying, "Due to circumstances that everyone here is aware of regarding our host — I should say former host. We will not be producing a new edition of the show this season, but it will be back for the 2016-2017 season with a new host. We've actually been overwhelmed by a number of really exciting people who have come forward and are interested in taking over the show. You've heard some names bandied about. Some of them are simply not true, but I also don't want to speculate on any specifics today because we haven't gotten that far into the process. As soon as we settle on someone, we'll get the word out, and something tells me that will be big news."
Greenblatt explained that they are in search for a host with a big personality and the ability to create noise. He described that Trump was one of the few people who fits the description with his blunt personality. However, Greenblatt explained that his involvement in the presidential election separated him from the network. He then confirmed that they certainly do not expect the return of Trump on Celebrity Apprentice.
