'NCIS' Season 13 Cast News, Update: Michael Weatherly's Agent DiNozzo Exit Plotline Revealed

Earlier this year, the news was rife with the details that series star Michael Weatherly of CBS' hit police procedural drama "NCIS," will be exiting after Season 13.

"After 13 years on NCIS, Michael Weatherly is leaving the show at the end of this season," CBS said in a statement, according to TVLine.

Over the course of weeks, countless plot theories emerged indicating as to how Weatherly's fan-favorite character, NCIS Special Agent Anthony "Tony" DiNozzo, will say goodbye from the show. One prevailing speculation hinted that his departure might be tied with his decision to rekindle the fire with his ex, Jeanne Benoit (played by Scottie Thompson).

The latest plot spoilers, however, revealed that DiNozzo's final scenes in the long-running series could have something to do with a serial killer whose targets are federal agents.

In a separate report from TVLine, the media outlet said that the agent's final appearance will be in Season 13's finale titled "Family First." As cited, the segment will air on Tuesday, May 17 at its usual hour.

The synopsis says that international crime-fighting organizations, NCIS, FBI and the MI6 will join forces to hunt down "an escaped British spy who is targeting current and former agents."

Perhaps he could be one of the killer's latest victims. Or, the authorities will help him disappear? Regardless of which, it is the utmost concern of the show to give the character a satisfying send-off.

"We're really trying to give everybody something that leaves them satisfied," the site quoted series executive Gary Glasberg.

For the meantime, "NCIS" Season 13 returns next week, with a brand new episode titled "Return to Sender."

The synopsis from The Futon Critic reads:

Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Senior FBI Agent T.C. Fornell (Joe Spano)unite after two British prisoners, including a former spy, escape and arrive stateside via a shipping container. Also, McGee (Sean Murray) is busy apartment hunting and determined to find out how DiNozzo (Weatherly) purchased his lavish place.

"NCIS" Season 13 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
