'NCIS' Season 13 – Going dark and somber
"NCIS" Season 13 will premiere in just a few days and it's going to leave behind the fun and camaraderie and trod down the dark and somber path. The "NCIS" Season 12 finale had the shocking shoot out by a kid. Gibbs was shot at by a kid belonging to the international terrorist organization – the Calling.
The premiere episode of "NCIS" Season 13 will open with Gibbs being taken for treatment aboard a Navy hospital ship. Tony DiNozzo and CIA Officer Joanna Teague will travel to Shanghai in pursuit of the terrorist organization, the Calling.
With Gibbs under treatment, DiNozzo will take over Gibbs' job. The shootout leaves Gibbs a changed man, inside and out. His new personality will clash with DiNozzo and there will be an escalating tension between them throughout the season. DiNozzo has taken on Gibbs' job reluctantly, a fact Gibbs does not consider. He thinks DiNozzo took his job.
The season will also have Gibbs hallucinating and coming in and out of dreams as he undergoes treatment. These dreams or hallucinations might be flashbacks too. He is also feeling helpless and undergoes depression. This changes his personality and Gibbs slowly turns into a very negative character by the end of the season. His negativity affects the whole team. The writers of the show may have taken advantage of Gibbs' shooting to make the season dark and somber as compared to previous seasons.
Part of the charm of "NCIS" throughout these years - twelve seasons - has been the fact that people have really grown attached to the characters of Gibbs and DiNozzo. Some fans might enjoy the transformation of Gibbs, some might not. CBS is taking a huge risk in changing the tone of their procedural mainstay, "NCIS".
Some special guests will appear this season. According to TV Line, Michael Weatherly, who plays the character of Tony DiNozzo says,"I have come to understand that there will be, later in the year, some guest stars that will melt the avid NCIS viewer's brain."
"NCIS" Season 13 returns to CBS on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
