In fact, the showrunners have vowed to keep "NCIS" Season 14 fresh and entertaining right off its premiere on September 20.

Fun and action just like before

More than any other season, "NCIS" Season 13 had more dark and bittersweet moments. But Executive Producer Emily Wickersham has promised to bring back all the fun and mystery the fans have missed out on last season. This, despite no longer having DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) around. In Season 14, the "NCIS" actors are expected to be involved in more gunfights and to dodge more explosions in their efforts to solve more mysterious cases. When new cast member Wilmer Valderrama spoke of his first week of filming, he disclosed that at day five of shooting the first episode, there has been a couple of explosions already and his character has shot a guy off a motorcycle.

The return of Tony DiNozzo

One of the major highlights of "NCIS" last season, if not the series, was Agent Tony DiNozzo's departure from the NCIS team. But, Weatherly, who played the beloved character for 13 seasons, did not cut his ties with the network and is currently working on a new series "Bull". In fact, his series will have the same season premiere night as "NCIS" Season 14.

Weatherly has not closed his doors also in coming back to make guest appearances in "NCIS" should the writers will want to write in DiNozzo in future episodes. According to the latest rumors for "NCIS" Season 14, he might just be able to do that courtesy of the wedding of Delilah (Margo Harshman) with Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray).

Wedding not definite

Fans speculate that somebody with DiNozzo's character will certainly not miss the wedding of his good friend. But, McGee must first pop the question to Delilah. The proposal is something that will need a big buildup in the show as much as the wedding itself.

The wedding is expected to happen in "NCIS" Season 14 nevertheless, most probably in the season finale. That will be a great time as any for DiNozzo to do a cameo.

According to showrunner Gary Glasberg in an interview, nothing is cast in stone yet as far as the wedding is concerned. One thing that is sure for McGee in the upcoming season is that he will be DiNozzo's replacement in the NCIS team.

New additions to the "NCIS" family

With the hole that Weatherly left in the show, the showrunners hope that the new additions to the cast will be able to give the long-running series new energy. Over the summer, Valderrama, Jennifer Esposito, and Duane Henry have signed on to be members of the NCIS family.

While Valderrama and Esposito are new to "NCIS" Season 14, Henry had a recurring role last season and was promoted to series regular last July. He plays MI6 Officer Clayton Reeves, a man who became a successful government agent despite his blue-collar background.

Valderrama is Special Agent Nicholas "Nick" Torres in the upcoming season of "NCIS". Not much is known about the character, except that he has recently returned from an undercover assignment. Any secret that he has been keeping will surely be spilled out over the course of the season.

Meanwhile, Esposito portrays Special Agent Alexandra "Alex" Quinn, who has spent several years as an NCIS training instructor will now be returning to the field.
