'NCIS' Season 15 Episode 7 Spoilers: Fornell Returns to Assist Gibbs in Reopened Case

Senior FBI Agent Fornell (Joe Spano) will return to help out Gibbs (Mark Harmon) in the upcoming episode of "NCIS."

In the episode titled "Burden of Proof," the synopsis reveals that the NCIS will be dragged in a messy case involving a convicted felon. The man is accusing Gibbs and his team of framing him for a murder he said he did not commit. The incident took place about ten years ago, and the man is supposed to face a death sentence.

With the allegation hanging over their heads, the agents will look for stronger pieces of evidence to prove that the criminal is lying. Ducky (David McCallum) will be asked by Gibbs to perform a new autopsy. Fornell will also come out of hiatus to assist. He was the lead investigator of the original case a decade ago.

The promo shows the criminal speaking with his lawyer. Gibbs and Jack (Maria Bello) can be seen listening to the exchange. As expected of the forensic psychologist, she remains detached, even riling up Gibbs by saying that they may have sentenced an innocent man and that they will probably do it again.

Fornell is also having second thoughts about the investigation. There is tension between him and Gibbs when they are shown discussing what to do next. If the court somehow proves that the NCIS bungled up the case many years ago, the criminal will walk away. Gibbs and the others will have to deal with an even messier situation if it does happen.

Last episode, the squad took on a case involving a dead petty officer. His body was found on a golf course. McGee (Sean Murray) had to rely on his skills to locate a viable witness by going over the victim's ham radio.

Elsewhere, new details were revealed about Jack. Reeves (Duane Henry) told the others that she was deep into psychological warfare when she was with the Army. Jack was transferred to the NCIS at Director Vance's (Rocky Carroll) request. She and Gibbs started on the wrong foot when they met one stormy night.

"NCIS" season 15 airs on Tuesdays, at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
