Netflix brings back 'Black Mirror' for 12 episodes

A show given a chance to return to production is the best thing that could ever happen. That's what will happen to the sci-fi hit "Black Mirror." According to Time, Netflix has ordered a new season of the British anthology series. The third season is no longer a rumor. The show, now a Netflix original, has been officially picked up and fans can look forward to another 12 episodes of it.

"Black Mirror" first aired in 2011 in the UK on Channel 4. It produced two seasons of three episodes each until the year 2013. Just last year, the show made its debut in Netflix and because of its dystopia genre and "suspenseful satire with techno-paranoia bent," it garnered tremendous popularity especially when it started becoming available to stream in the US. Geek even reported that the series pulled promising comparisons to "The Twilight Zone."

The show's most controversial and headline turner episode to date was its first episode in which the fictional prime minister was blackmailed into having sex with a pig. According to some sources, the current British Prime Minister David Cameron was reportedly involved in some sort of university initiation ritual with a pig during the time he was studying at Oxford. With the return of the anthology series, fans can expect to see bigger and more attention-grabbing episodes, which are going to be under the direction of original executive producers, Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones.

As stated in Entertainment Weekly, Brooker has already begun writing the upcoming season. It is slated to start production later this year. The English satirist and broadcaster stated his excitement for the new episodes especially since it will now be aired on the "most fitting platform imaginable."

"Netflix connects us with a global audience so that we can create bigger, stranger, more international and diverse stories than before, whilst maintaining that Black Mirror feel. I just hope none of these new story ideas come true," said Brooker.

There are no details yet as to when the all-new episodes will arrive but it is expected to come around mid or late 2016 if production starts this year.
