Netflix Parts Ways With Kevin Spacey Amid Sexual Assault Scandal

Things continue to go on a downward spiral for Kevin Spacey as Netflix announced it is cutting ties with the award-winning actor.

According to a report from The Verge, the streaming giant confirmed that it will no longer work with Spacey even in future projects. "Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey," said a Netflix spokesperson in a statement. "We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show," the spokesperson added.

"We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey," the spokesperson went on to say.

Netflix's decision comes in the wake of actor Anthony Rapp's allegations that Spacey committed sexual advancements against him back when Rapp was only 14 years old. Spacey, who was 26 years of age at that time, was working with Rapp in a "Long Day's Journey Into Night and Precious Sons" revival back in 1986.

In a similar tone, Deadline reported that production partner Media Rights Capital (MRC) confirmed that they have already suspended the actor. "While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey's behavior on the set of HOUSE OF CARDS, he has been suspended, effective immediately," said MRC in a statement. MRC said that it will "continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus" together with Netflix.

After the Rapp's allegations spread online, Spacey quickly responded via Twitter, saying he no longer remembers the alleged incident. He said, however, that if ever he behaved as such, he offers "the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior."

Last week, Netflix also announced that it will cancel Spacey's show, "House of Cards," where he plays the lead as Frank Underwood. Netflix and MRC said in a joint statement that they were "deeply troubled" with Rapp's shocking revelations.

With "House of Cards" indefinitely put on hold, it will be interesting to see how Netflix and MRC will put a creative spin to the series.
