Netflix Ranks 'Gilmore Girls' as Most-Watched Show; Will There be Another Revival?

Could another "Gilmore Girls" revival season air on Netflix? Fans wonder about the show's fate following the release of the official ranking of the shows on the streaming platform.

"Gilmore Girls" landed at the number one spot of the most binge-watched shows within 24 hours of its release on Netflix. The streaming site's tally covered programs that came out since 2013 to September 2017.

Netflix has never officially released anything related to how their shows rank among viewers until now. Netflix Vice President Brian Wright, however, clarified that this ranking doesn't specifically reflect the show's overall popularity.

"You can still have an absolutely beloved show that is binged," Wright said.

Case in point, "Stranger Things" season 1, which fell at number 10 in the most binge-watched list, built up its popularity as the weeks progressed after its release in July 2016. "Narcos" has a solid fan base but it's not even in the rankings of the most viewed shows within 24 hours.

Still, it cannot be denied that the "Gilmore Girls" revival, which was released on Netflix in November 2016, has a solid following of old and new fans. A likely second season revival could happen.

Speculations about the show's return received further boosting when fans learned that show creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino have the option to work with Netflix again. The Palladinos have a multi-year deal and a new show on the competing platform, Amazon Studios. Underscored in their contract, however, is a clause that allows them to do a follow up to "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" on Netflix.

It might take years for another "Gilmore Girls" revival to arrive on Netflix, though, with the Palladinos working on another show. Stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel have their own projects as well. Graham is on upcoming shows like "Linda from HR" and "Vampirina," while Bledel is now a series regular on "The Handmaid's Tale" season 2.
