It's official: "Frontier" is coming back for season 3.
Netflix's historical drama has been picked up for a third season, lead star Jason Momoa announced on Instagram Friday. "A special announcement from unko Harp ... Get ready for War ... Season 3!!! Season 2 left off with Momoa's Declan Harp formed to align with his enemies in order to take down a common threat. That is where season 3 will possibly pick up, as further details about the next installment are still being kept under wraps.
The official announcement from Netflix indicates "Frontier" will have another six episodes for season 3, which is the standard order for the show. The streaming service has yet to announce a definitive release date for the next season.
Having debuted in 2016, "Frontier" follows a part-native American, part-Irish outlaw named Declan Harp. The story is set in the 1700s and it focuses on Harp's mission to breach the fur trade. Momoa stars alongside Alun Armstrong, Katie McGrath, Zoe Boyle, Jessica Matten, Allan Hawco and Landon Liboiron. Critics and viewers have praised the series for giving more screen time to the stories of indigenous groups from that time period, usually portrayed by Native American stars.
Momoa is currently busy promoting his upcoming standalone DC film "Aquaman," which is slated to hit the big screen worldwide next year. The actor has been recently seen hanging out with his former "Game of Thrones" co-stars, fueling speculations that he will be returning as Khal Drogo for the HBO drama's final season. The actor has since denied the rumors claiming he will be reprising his long-dead character.
"Frontier" season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
