New Batman Mythology: DC Comics to Give New Insight Into Batman's Past

A new Batman mythology is to be unravelled by DC Entertainment, according to reports out this week.

Some new twists will be added to the storyline of Batman's transformative years as writers delve backwards in more detail into Bruce Wayne's past to show how he went through his transition from a wealthy socialite to the caped crusader.

DC Entertainment has assured fans that the fundamental parts of Bruce Wayne's history will remain untouched; for example, the murder of Wayne's parents will remain unaltered, according to Scott Snyder, the writer of "Batman" since its relaunch debuted in 2011.

Snyder has said, "It's not 'let's redo the origin. It's time for a new story showing how Batman became who he is in the New 52," according to The Associated Press.

DC's New 52 has been a great success since its relaunch a year and a half ago, and Snyder has told AP that this success has been the main driving force behind the idea to delve deeper into Wayne's past.

Many of the publisher's characters have been given overhauls, with origins and costumes changing to offer a contemporary take on their traditional look and characteristics.

The new mythology for Batman will begin in June in an 11 issue story called "The Zero Year."

Snyder has added, "We tried to preserve as much of Batman's history as we could and keep what we could of this history intact. It's 'The Zero Year,' the one that no one has told the story of before. We see how Bruce became the Batman, built the cave, faced off with his first super villain."

"We're not going to take apart 'Year One,'" Snyder said, rather he wants to offer fans new insight into the past of Batman.

Snyder concluded, "It's time for a new story showing how Batman became who he is in the New 52. It builds up the mythology."
