'New Girl' season 5 plot news: Cece and Schmidt's trouble in paradise

The upcoming season of "New Girl" is expected to feature Cece and Schmidt as they prepare for their wedding.

With Zooey Deschanel on maternity leave, the series is expected to see less of her character Jess and more of the other characters. One of the most interesting focuses in season 5 will be on Cece and Schmidt's proposal.

Creator of the series Liz Meriweather shared details on their wedding during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She said, "We also really love Schmidt and Cece together. They're funny. It felt like a way of generating story and comedy. Schmidt, in our idea for the season, becomes obsessed with the wedding planning in the way that, stereotypically, a woman would. He is very focused on throwing the best wedding of all time."

However, not all will go smoothly for the couple as their mothers will present challenges to their relationship. It was reported that Cece's mom will not approve of her choice to marry Schmidt since she is coming from a traditional Indian culture.

With Zooey Deschanel gone, actor Lamorne Morris, who plays Winston, shared his sentiments on the actress' pregnancy. He revealed that he believes she will be a good mother because of how she treats them on set. He said, "She's a great mom to us on set. She puts the hammer down on the craziness we do from time to time. She gives me advice on every aspect of my life. Family, finances... She's very smart. Very healthy. She'll teach her daughter how to eat right, that's for sure."

Deschanel and husband Jacob Pechenik had their first child last July 2015. Because of that, the production had to film several episodes of the upcoming season without her. It was reported that the premiere episode will be titled "No Girl."

There has been no announcement on the release date of New Girl season 5.
