'New Girl' Season 7: FOX May Pick Up Show for Another Season
Following rumors about its possible cancellation, it looks like "New Girl" is not going to end just yet. Recent reports suggest that FOX will pick up the series for another season and that the new season will focus on Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) first name, Winston.
"New Girl" executive producer Brett Baer recently said in an interview with TV Line that there is a huge possibility that the series will be renewed for another season.
"All indications are that it's a very good possibility that we are coming back... There might be a whole episode where we do a mistaken identity kind of thing," he said, allegedly referring to the characters of Greenfield and Lamorne Morris' characters, who share the same first name.
If the series will be renewed for another season, then fans can expect the new season to dig deeper into the character of Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and her relationship with Nick (Jake Johnson). It can be recalled that in the previous week, Nick decided to break up with Reagan (Megan Fox) after realizing that they didn't click. Now that they are no longer together, fans can expect a possible reunion between Jess and Nick in the season 6 finale.
Baer also revealed that fans will get a satisfying season 6 finale — with or without a series renewal. He said it would be really disappointing to let the long-running show go off the air without a satisfying conclusion to a storyline that has been the engine of the series since its debut.
"That said, we're obviously hoping [for a season 7]. We have ideas for how to propel the show into the future. But we didn't want to go off the air without answering this question," he said.
"New Girl" currently stands as FOX's least-watched comedy with only 2.1 million weekly viewers. The season 6 finale titled "Five Stars for Beezus" will air on Tuesday, April 4 at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
