New 'Goosebumps' Video Game Coming in the Fall
A new "Goosebumps" video game by WayForward is in the works, priming up for a release this fall.
WayForward Technologies, an independent video game developer, is preparing a new "Goosebumps" video game based on the popular horror fiction series for children.
While WayForward has yet to officially announce the game on its website, Microsoft has already come forward with some advanced information.
According to an Xbox store listing, the game, intended to be a prequel to the movie adaptation due to hit theaters on October 16, will be published by GameMill Entertainment. It is scheduled for an October 14 release, just two days before the film premieres.
The game is geared at pitting players against various supernatural opponents, throwing in a number of beasts into the mix, including werewolves, gnomes, and walking scarecrows, all based on the book's monsters conceptualized by author R.L. Stine.
Journeying through a spooky neighborhood, players will encounter a haunted house and a seemingly deserted mall. Near the end of the game, players will have to vanquish the game's boss character, Slappy, an evil dummy who figures prominently in a number of "Goosebumps" books.
The Xbox store website provided several screenshots from the game, including the sinister scarecrow, the haunted house, a glowering cast iron stove, and a strange white-haired woman with a crazed grin.
The point-and-click horror adventure will precede the movie version of the same title, starring Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, and Odeya Rush under "Shrek" helmsman, Rob Letterman.
The movie will follow the story of a teenage boy, Zach (Minnette) who moves into a small town, and meets his new neighbor, Hannah (Rush), whose father, R.L. Stine (Jack Black) pens the "Goosebumps" series to keep all the monsters and ghosts locked up in the books he writes.
When Zach inadvertently releases the creatures, the three of them team up to lock the monsters up before they overrun the neighborhood.
