New HBO TV Series, Movies for April 2017: 'War Dogs,' 'Victor Frankenstein' and 'Suicide Squad'

HBO has a handful of new and exciting shows and movies lined up for this month along with season premieres and finales of ongoing titles.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" may be making its final run on HBO on April 7, but in its place, the network will be streaming a long list of new and old theatrical releases that includes the black comedy-drama movie, "War Dogs," and the science fiction horror movie, "Victor Frankenstein."

"War Dogs" stars Jonah Hill and Miles Teller as two friends in their early 20s residing in Miami Beach during the Iraq War. They get into a little-known government initiative that allows small-time businesses to place a bid on U.S. military contracts. They make a lucrative business out of exploiting this initiative, but get into trouble when they eventually land a 300-million-dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military, which in turn puts them in business with some shady contacts, which includes the U. S. government. The movie will premiere on HBO on April 8.

On the other hand, "Victor Frankenstein" is based on contemporary adaptations of the classic Mary Shelley novel, "Frankenstein," and is told from the hunchback Igor's perspective. It stars James McAvoy as the titular character and Daniel Radcliffe as Igor. It is set to premiere on HBO on April 29.

Additionally, HBO will also be premiering DC Comics-based superhero movie "Suicide Squad" in both theatrical and extended versions on April 15. The extended version reportedly features more Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) scenes, an additional scene where Harley (Margot Robbie) proclaims her love for The Joker (Jared Leto) while chasing him on a motorcycle, and a cameo appearance from the movie's director, David Ayer, among others.

New and original shows premiering this month include the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 29 and the Earth Day special "Saving My Tomorrow" on April 22. Also premiering on April 22 is "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," which stars Oprah Winfrey as an African-American woman whose mother's cells help achieve a revolutionary scientific breakthrough.
