New 'Justice League' Poster Heavily Resembles Previous 'Thor: Ragnarok' Poster
It looks like the battles between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe start long before their films beat each other out at the box office. Recently, a new one began between the two studios when the team behind DC's upcoming film "Justice League" apparently borrowed some ideas from Marvel's marketing campaign for "Thor: Ragnarok."
Several weeks ago, Marvel released new posters to promote "Thor: Ragnarok," featuring the characters from the upcoming film with a unique colored backdrop for each. The colors behind each character matched their respective traits and costumes, with Thor posed in front of a red backdrop while Odin's had a yellow-orange background.
Earlier this week, Warner Bros., which was DC's partner in promoting "Justice League," also dropped new posters to market the film that showed the same color schemes as the ones previously featured in Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok's" promotional materials. Although the characters in the "Justice League" posters were more of a silhouette rather than action shots, the overall appearance of the poster quite resembled the "Thor: Ragnarok" posters released a few weeks ago.
Since the resemblance cannot be denied, fans were quick to assume that DC is now trying to borrow some of Marvel's marketing strategies. The new "Justice League" poster was posted by Warner Bros. via "Justice League Movie's" official Twitter page and has since then drawn thousands of comments by fans who pointed out its parallels with the "Thor: Ragnarok" poster.
As of this writing, neither of the two camps has commented on the issue. While it might have just been a coincidence, some speculate that it was a deliberate move by DC to lift ideas from Marvel.
"Thor: Ragnarok" will follow the God of Thunder as he puts together a team including Hulk, Loki and Valkyrie to fight Hela. On the other hand, "Justice League" will find the greatest DC superheroes band together and fight Steppenwolf and the Parademons. The films will hit U.S. movie theaters on Nov. 3 and Nov. 17, respectively.
